Success at Montgomery County Community College

Lura Williams was referred to Gateway Resources shortly after graduating from Norristown High School in 1993.  Lura knew the types of jobs she wanted to obtain.  After attending a vocational technical school, Lura was interested in the food prep/course of study.  After a few job interviews a position was found for Lura working at Montgomery County Community College in the cafeteria.  Lura was very excited and started on August 16, 1993.
At first Lura worked part-time.  Lura continued doing a great job and in 1996 a full-time position was offered.  In 1999, Williamson Hospitality Services, a new company took over the cafeteria.  Since Lura was a dedicated and hard worker, Williamson’s kept her as a full-time employee working year round.  Mark Seyboth, Lura’s supervisor at Williamson’s, says,  “Lura is a great asset to the cafeteria and she is very helpful, hard working, and dependable.”  Lura’s job duties include dishwashing, cleaning the cafeterias dining room, trash and recycling.  She is always willing to help out in anyway. She also attends aerobics twice a week and goes to the mall with her girlfriend.  Lura is thankful for Gateways’ support over the years and knows her job coach, Patti Brey is always there when needed.  Lura says Gateway is a good agency and she is really happy to have her job at the college.  After eight years of employment it shows!  Keep up the hard work Lura!  Way to go!

National Disability Employment Awareness Month
The month of October has been designated nationally to commemorate and focus attention on the employment of people with disabilities.  David Giraldi, Executive Director states, “Workers with disabilities are an important and largely untapped resource for employers.  Demographic data indicates that in the next few years there will be a dramatic reduction in the American workforce due to aging of the  population. At Gateway Employment Resources, the skills and abilities of people with disabilities are developed and promoted.  Employers can address their shrinking conventional labor pool by working with Gateway’s professional staff in recruiting and retaining people with disabilities.”  For further information regarding your recruitment needs contact Tina Richards at (610) 272-1411.
